Talan is at the age where he needs to be disciplined. He occasionally kicks, hits, headbutts and sometimes even bites us. We have implemented time-outs for him recently (1 minute for each year old that he is ~ so right now that's 1 and 1/2 minutes). Last night he had to be in only 1 timeout before he realized that he wasn't allowed to kick mom. He REALLY doesn't like time-outs and gets pretty upset about it. Afterwards, however he gives me a hug like he realizes I did it because I was upset at him and is saying sorry.
This is a hard age for him...and us as well. He can't quite communicate everything that he wants us to do/know and gets frustrated. He also has a hard time understanding that sometimes it's ok to kick and other times it's not ok. (For example: He's allowed to kick a ball but not people) He seems to respond well to time-outs so far which is good because verbally trying to deter him absolutely does not work. He just pretends that he didn't hear you and will even go as far as to avoid looking at you even if you try to get right in front of his face.
He's been a really good kid so far and even his tantrums, however rare, are very small and over quickly. I've seen how bad some kids can get and am VERY thankful for the minuscule situations that we occasionally have to handle.
